Welcome to the village of Atholville, a thriving community recognized by many as unique in the Maritimes. Tourists and shoppers have many reasons to come to Atholville and as many reasons to return. We offer many business and commercial opportunities. Some are moving here simply because of the warmth of its residents or the charm of its location. People come to Atholville for its geographic location, its business, commercial and recreational activities.
Located along the southern shore of the picturesque Restigouche River, Atholville lies in the heart of the Appalachian Range and is regarded as a unique, exceptionally prosperous village that is continuously growing and attracting visitors, retailers and industry. Our village is like no other in Restigouche County. If you come to visit our municipality, you’ll recognize its unique singularity and character. Atholville has a life and feeling of its own.
Visitors can come to Atholville via the Matapedia or Van Horne bridges or from Route 11. It seems that all roads lead to this village, making it the ideal place to visit, shop or do business. This must explain why it is booming and is the envy of neighboring municipalities.
Atholville grew from the wood and pulp industry with the construction of its large sawmill at the beginning of the century and of the former Fraser Pulp and Paper mill in the late 20’s. The latter has been sold after many years of operation and is now owned and operated by AV Cell, a company transforming pulp into textile.
Atholville is an engine to the economy and commercial activities of the region. This stems from the fact that our village is both industrial-based and commercial-based. The total payroll and money being spent within the boundaries of the village is another factor contributing to the synergy of the economy which extends to surrounding municipalities. In this respect, Atholville is singled out as the most progressive village in the province.
When you enter the boundaries of our municipally you will find people shopping in the various outlets operating in the mall or in other retail stores. Visitors can enjoy eating in our restaurants, walking or running on our trails, bicycle or ATV riding, canoeing, fishing, hunting and camping or simply relaxing and enjoying the view of the mountain slopes and waterways.
Nearby lies Sugarloaf Park with its ski slopes, country-ski trails and extensive camping ground. On its premises incoming tourists have access to a tourist information bureau as well as a broad variety of sports and recreational activities.
Come visit us, shop in our stores, do business with us, have fun with us. Meet the residents of Atholville. Once you get to know them you’ll want to come back.
